Further requirements

Choose 120 credits in the academic year

Suitably qualified students may be exempted from PH1011 and PH1012 and allowed to take some Level-2000 Physics credits to reduce the credit load in Second Year toward 120.

Students lacking the prerequisite for MT1002 must take MT1001 in Semester 1.

For students with Advanced Highers in maths, chemistry and physics at A,A,A OR A-levels in maths, chemistry and physics at A,A,A OR IB with HL maths, chemistry and physics at 6,6,6

Year 1:

S1: CH1202 (10), MT1002 (20), CH2501 (30) S2: CH2601 (30), CH2701 (30)

Year 2:

S1: MT2501 (15), MT2503 (15), PH2011 (30) S2: PH2012 (30) + 30 additional credits

For students without Advanced Highers in maths, chemistry and physics at A,A,A OR A-levels in maths, chemistry and physics at A,A,A OR IB with HL maths, chemistry and physics at 6,6,6

Year 1:

S1: CH1401 (20), PH1011 (20), MT1002 (unless taken in S2) S2: CH1402 (20), PH1012 (20), MT1002 (unless taken in S1)

Plus additional credits to make 120 over the year. Students lacking the prerequisite for MT1002 must take MT1001 in S1 and take MT1002 in S2.

Students with Advanced Higher or A-level maths and physics at AA may choose to bypass PH1011 and PH1012 to take some 2000-level PH credits in year 1 to reduce the credit load in year 2.

Year 2:

S1: CH2501 (30), PH2011 (30), MT2501 (15), MT2503 (15) S2: CH2701 (30), PH2012 (30)

Automatic entry to Honours requires

  • pass and have an average grade 15 or better in modules marked $
  • pass and have an average grade 15 or better in modules marked ^
  • pass and have an average grade 15 or better in modules marked ~

Entry to Honours

Students who meet the requirements specified above, and who meet all other programme requirements, will be given automatic entry into Honours programmes.

Qualified entry to Honours is not available for Integrated Masters programmes.

Students who do not meet the requirements for automatic entry to Honours in an Integrated Masters programme may be eligible for automatic or qualified entry to Honours in a related BSc programme.

See: www.st-andrews.ac.uk/students/academic/academic-advising/glossary/honours-entry/ )

MSci Honours

The general requirements are 600 credits over a period of normally five years (and not more than six years) or part-time equivalent, the final three years of which form an approved Honours programme of 360 credits, of which 120 credits are at 5000 level and at least a further 210 credits at 3000 and 4000 levels.
