Students who meet the requirements specified above, and who meet all other programme requirements, will be given automatic entry into Honours programmes.

MA Honours

The general requirements are 480 credits over a period of normally four years (and not more than five years) or part-time equivalent, of which the final two years form an approved Honours programme of 240 credits, of which 90 credits are at 4000 or 5000 level and at least a further 120 credits at 3000 and/or 4000 or 5000 levels.

Further requirements

Choose 120 credits in academic year

All Joint Psychology students must take a total of 60 credits from: PS3031-PS3034, (one of PS3035 or PS3036) and (one of PS3037 or PS3038) across 3rd and 4th Year.

For BPS Accreditation, students must take a project module in their 4th Year from the following list: PS4050, PS4055, PS4796.

A total of between 160 and 180 credits must be obtained from Psychology modules across Third and Fourth Years (excluding PS4026, PS4040, PS4050, PS4055, PS4056).

British Psychological Society (BPS) accreditation

For recognition by the British Psychological Society, passes are required in the following modules: (PS3021 or PS3023 or PS3025), (PS3022 or PS3024 or PS4026), PS3031, PS3032, PS3033, PS3034, (PS3035 or PS3036 or PN3313), (PS3037 or PS3038) and (PS4050 or PS4055 or PS4056 or PS4299 or PS4796 or PS4797). In order to be eligible for accreditation, students must gain at least a Lower Second Class Honours degree. This recognition is required for those who wish to gain employment as professional psychologists.

Study abroad

In the case of students who spend part of the Honours programme on a recognised Study Abroad scheme, the Programme Requirements will be amended to take into account overseas courses which are approved by the relevant St Andrews School in the Learning Agreement (see www.st-andrews.ac.uk/students/study-abroad/academic ).
