Entry to Honours

Students who attain an average of grade 11.0 or above at the first sitting in the requisite 2000-level modules and who meet all other programme requirements will be given automatic offers of entry into Honours programmes*.*Apart from students on Integrated Masters degrees. Students permitted automatic entry to Honours will only be permitted to trail one module to a maximum of 30 sub-honours credits into Honours.

BSc / MA Honours

The general requirements are 480 credits over a period of normally four years (and not more than five years) or part-time equivalent, of which the final two years form an approved Honours programme of 240 credits, of which 90 credits are at 4000 or 5000 level and at least a further 120 credits at 3000 and/or 4000 or 5000 levels.

At least 90 Level4000 credits must be obtained



If less than 60 credits were taken from (PS3031 - PS3034, PS3035 - PS3038) further credits must be selected in Year 4 reach 60 credits from these modules across Third and Fourth Year.

A total of between 160 and 180 credits must be obtained from PS3000-PS4199 across Third and Fourth Years.

British Psychological Society (BPS) accreditation

Passes in PS3021, PS3022, PS3031, PS3032, PS3033, PS3034, (PS3035 or PS3036 or PN3313), (PS3037 or PS3038), PS4040 and (PS4050 or PS4299 or PN4299) are required for recognition by the British Psychological Society. Due to current to timetable clashes, this may not be possible for degrees in combination with Theological Studies, Economics, History, International Relations, Management, or Social Anthropology. This recognition is required for those who wish to gain employment as professional psychologists.

Study abroad

In the case of students who spend part of the Honours programme on a recognised Study Abroad scheme, the Programme Requirements will be amended to take into account overseas courses which are approved by the relevant St Andrews School in the Learning Agreement (see www.st-andrews.ac.uk/studyabroad/outgoingstudents/AcademicInformation ).
